Who we are

My name is Staci Rising, and Rising Herb Farm is my dream. To me, this quiet 10-acre homestead represents everything precious we’ve moved away from in the wake of industrialization and globalization and “the hustle”: self-sufficiency, togetherness, mutual aid, and appreciation for the Universe and her endless generosity.

I’m so blessed to live on this wild land with my husband, James, and my four children. On our farm, we grow heirloom vegetables, Indiana and Midwest natives, and nearly every herb under the Sun. We also raise wool sheep, chickens, meat rabbits, and quail. In 2021, we started offering fresh and dry herbs at a local farmers’ market. In 2024, we set up a small plant nursery at the farm and were delighted by how many folks came to buy rare herbs and natives!

By the end of 2024, I had made the leap and quit my “real world” job in academia to support the farm and my family full-time. I no longer wanted to participate in an extractive economy where I labored for a wage (away from my home and family) that I then had to spend on expensive, mass-produced food and things to distract myself from the stress of my job. Instead, my goal at Rising Herb Farm is to support a local, life-giving economy: where folks produce and share instead of just consume, where we get to be present with our families, and where we live mindfully in sync with the changing seasons.

I know that if you’re reading this, these values of togetherness, self-sufficiency, and earth-spirited reciprocity are important to you, too! We hope to see you at our plant nursery, at the farmers’ market, or somewhere in between.

Blessed be,

Staci
